Mil-spec Conformal Coatings

Mil-spec conformal coatings are a type of coating that is used to protect electronic components from moisture, corrosion, and other environmental factors. They are typically used in military and aerospace applications, but they can also be used in other industries where there is a need for electrical insulation to protect electronic components from harsh environments.

Aptek manufactures Mil-spec conformal coatings to meet the requirements of and are QPL listed to MIL-I-46058C.  Aptek makes two types of conformal coatings:

— Polyurethane coatings: Polyurethane coatings are flexible, hydrolytically stable, can be resistant to chemicals and solvents, and can withstand a wide operating range of -65C to +100C. They have excellent adhesion to clean substrates and they are a good choice for applications where durability and flexibility are important. APTEK 2503-A/B, APTEK 2512-A/B

— A UV-cure, urethane conformal coating version is available where faster production through-put is needed. This coating maintains all of the desired properties of a urethane coating but is able to become tack-free and handleable after sufficient UV exposure. UVIKOTE 7503LM-A/B

The best type of mil-spec conformal coating for a particular application will depend on the specific requirements of the project. Factors to consider include the application method, the environmental conditions, and the desired level of performance.

Here are some of the benefits of using mil-spec conformal coatings:

— Protection from moisture: Mil-spec conformal coatings can help to protect electronic components from moisture, which can cause corrosion and other damage.

— Protection from corrosion: Mil-spec conformal coatings can help to protect electronic components from corrosion, which can cause damage to the components and their connections.

— Protection from environmental factors: Mil-spec conformal coatings can help to protect electronic components from a variety of environmental factors, such as dust, dirt, and extreme temperatures.

— Increased durability: Mil-spec conformal coatings can help to increase the durability of electronic components, making them less likely to be damaged by environmental factors or physical impact.

Here are some of the applications of mil-spec conformal coatings:

— Military and aerospace applications: Mil-spec conformal coatings are commonly used in military and aerospace applications, where there is a need to protect electronic components from harsh environments.

— Medical applications: Mil-spec conformal coatings can also be used in medical applications, such as in pacemakers and other medical devices, where there is a need to protect electronic components from moisture and corrosion.

Overall, mil-spec conformal coatings offer a number of benefits that can make them a valuable choice for a variety of applications. If you are looking for a coating that can provide protection from moisture, corrosion, and other environmental factors, then a mil-spec conformal coating may be recommended.
